|True Stories: Testimonies on The Young Peacemaker
Testimony from a Home School Mom
Provides detailed plans for teaching biblical peacemaking to 3rd-7th grade children in families, Christian schools, home schools, Sunday schools, VBS, and youth groups.
I am a mother of 4 children, ranging in ages from 4 years to 9 years. I homeschool the three eldest boys. My second boy has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and is on medication to help with his learning ability and social skills. My sister purchased your Young Peacemaker Series and gave it to me to do with my children. I am always on the lookout for material I can use to help my son practice social skills. I would like you to know that I have spent this whole term doing peacemakers as a subject with my children and it has been excellent. They have loved doing it and now when conflict in our family happens we are talking in terms of where we are on the Slippery Slope and owning our choices and owning our consequences.
I didn’t cover all the information given in the course this year as I felt some of it was over the head of my son in year one. Some of the pages in the Activity Books I enlarged on the photocopier and we did them together in a brainstorm session. We made posters and did role plays. The children have learned such a lot and I am so excited for them to be learning these much needed skills at such an early age. I plan to do the course with them one term every year, and add more information each time.
My children are enrolled as Distance Ed. Students and we had a visit from our principal last week. I showed him what we had been doing as it was not a part of our recognized curriculum. He was rapt and took some of the information back to the school with him as he would like to use it in their day school. He got your web site address so he can contact you. My sister and I see this program has great potential to be used in homeschool families and schools alike, and it is our dream to be able to get together with groups of them and show them what peacemaking is all about. This is something we are praying about.
Not having skills of peacemaking has meant that my family has been torn apart with one of my sisters and a brother refusing to speak to us. So this whole issue of living at peace with everyone is very close to my heart. This ongoing situation has continued to bring much heartache to us and to our parents. So, I am excited that my own children can learn these skills as they grow. Be encouraged, this is a mighty instrument being used of the Lord, and I just want to tell everyone about it! Thank You. God Bless,
The Young Peacemaker has been the first material I’ve been able to use “as is” with my class of 6th-8th grade girls. The class is part of our church’s apartment ministry. Normally, the materials I use target white, middle-class, Christian (or churched) young people.
This material and Russ Flint’s illustrations are universal in appeal, and the black and Hispanic students in my class relate very well to Leroy & Russell and Nikki & Sammie and the rest of the gang. They encourage them to ask some very good questions (and your teaching book provides me with most of the answers).
I praise God for your willingness to put these materials together. I praise Him for our Minister of Missions, who took the time to find such excellent materials.
As soon as I’ve finished presenting the material in my class on a 6th-8th grade level, I plan to adjust it to 2-4 year old level to use in my home daycare.
Thank you again for the excellent material. By the way, our class is named “The Peacemakers Class” and our class Bible verse is Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God.” The girls voted on the name and the verse about a year before we discovered this series.

Principles for Principals
I have always hated conflict; it makes me physically sick. As a principal of a Christian school, this fall has been a time of constantly resolving conflict with teachers, parents, and students. Ken’s seminar and notes gave me a fresh, biblical look at resolving conflicts. In fact, I used some of your materials in an inservice with the teachers at school. It is “freeing” to be able to point to Scriptural principles to help resolve conflict. (My meetings often refer to Matthew 18, and how to resolve interpersonal difficulties.)
I appreciate your ministry! Thank you, and I will be rereading my notes and the material found on your site. Your children’s material looks fantastic! May God bless you as you continue to serve Him in this important ministry.
